i have african american hair, and it is 100% natural. that means i dont have a perm or anything. i've been thinking of some cute styles but im not sure if they'd work. the first style i was thinking was that i would get a straightener (tourmaline ceramic so little to no damage, plus using heat protectant cream), straighten my whole head, and then braid it into two big braids, then wake up the next morning and take the braids out. it would be wavy kinda like this right? http://z.about.com/d/beauty/1/0/8/H/curl... and then if i went to sleep with it wavy like that and then woke up and brushed it out really good with a brush like this http://www.cachebeauty.com/Isinis_brush_... it would straighten back out a bit right?

It's called a braid out. You can also achieve this without making your hair straight also. It won't look like the picture, but you'll have similar results but not as straight. Be careful with heat, it can cause damage.

sorry to burst your bubble, but the first one wont work no matter your hair type. Your hair doesn't get hot enough for it to make it wavey using braids when you get out of the shower, towel dry your hair, and put it in braids when it is still damp and go to bed with them in, then in the morning they will be wavey.
