Scrunching wavy hair?

I have really wavy hair, and when I scrunch it and let it air dry, it gets almost spiral-y. My questions is to any hair specialists, is it better to comb through my wet hair and then scrunch it, or just do it without combing through. My hair is long enough that it doesn't get very tangled if I don't comb/brush it first, and it seems to get curlier if I don't comb through it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

No brushing is not necessary. If you absolutely have to use a WIDE toothed comb to do so.

Brushing wavy/curly hair breaks apart the curls and makes them disjointed and frizzy. Just use a detangler and keep on scrunchin'!

brushing through it may cause it to become frizzy, use a pick and start at the top and work your way to the bottom. Then scrunch your hair this should give you better results, also you didn't mention whether or not you use a hair product it would help if you used mousse.
